Just as a pencil needs to be sharpened regularly to create its best work, we too must sharpen our habits and routines each morning to create the best version of ourselves and achieve success in life.

In this article, we will be discussing five essential things that you should take note of before you head out everyday. These guiding blocks are essential to living a successful life and becoming the best version of yourself. To help illustrate these concepts, we will be drawing a lesson from the humble pencil.

1. Leave a mark everywhere you go

The pencil will always leave a mark. It can either create joy or pull an ocean of tears from the eyes of a viewer. Always leave a positive mark wherever you go. You are constantly writing your own story, so never stop writing it.

2. Correct your mistakes

Like the eraser attached to a pencil, you will be able to correct the mistakes you make along the way. People say that we should learn from our mistakes, but they are not mistakes. They are lessons we can draw from to do better next time. That’s why the clean eraser is never the same once it touches the dark lines on the surface of your white sheet.

3. Re-sharpening of the mind, body and Soul:

In order for the pencil to be useful, it needs to be re-sharpened from time to time. If the pencil could feel, you can only imagine how painful it would be. But that’s what it takes for it to be a useful tool. Life is much the same. We encounter painful moments and experiences on a daily basis, but in the shade of these challenges, we build character, grow in wisdom and understanding. Think of every challenge as an opportunity, and never stop moving forward.

4. What’s inside you is all that matters

A pencil will not serve its purpose if it has no lead inside; it will be thrown among sticks as firewood. What’s inside you is enough, so don’t let anyone pull that out of you. The color and size of a pencil is not important when you misplace it as soon as the examination begins. You are beautiful just the way you are, and that bare hair is just what your future mate is looking for.

5. Death is inevitable, living is optional

Do not just exist, taking every day without seriousness. A pencil is regarded as such because of its existence and functionality. As it reduces in size, it loses its quantity but not its worth. Even after everything, it still leaves a mark on the artist’s drawing pad.
